II. Funbridge, how it works

II.1 Tournament format
There are three tournament formats on Funbridge:

Tournaments called "Playing in your serie".
They are accessible by clicking on the button “Playing in your serie". They are composed of four deals. 100 different deals are available every 15 days. These tournaments establish the general ranking of all participants and group players by level of play.

Daily tournaments.
They are accessible by clicking on the button “Tournament of the day”. They are composed of 20 deals. As the name suggests, only one daily tournament takes place each day and is opened to each player who wish to take part to it, regardless of his level of play.

Practice tournaments.
They are accessible by clicking on the button “Training". They are composed of a one and only deal. An unlimited number of these practice tournaments is available. They are exactly the same for all players, regardless of their level of play.

II.2 Percentage computation on a deal and a tournament
How is computed a deal percentage?
On each deal you play, you get a percentage value ranging from 0% to 100%.
0% means that you are the only one having the lowest score possible.
50% means that there are as many players having a better score than you as players having a worse score than you.
100% means that you are the only one to have achieved the best score

Percentage computation details:
We first set the highest value possible, which represents the number of players taking part to the tournament less 1 point.
This value is assigned to the best player.
Then, this value minus one point is assigned to the second best player.
And so on ... up to the last player.
If two players tied for the same rank, we add their ranking points and we divide them by the number of tied players, so that each player get the same ranking point value.
Once this has been done, we convert the score to a percentage by multiplying the ranking points by 100 and dividing the result by the maximum ranking point value.

Example for a nine-players tournament:
Results are 1 with 650, 4 with 620, 2 with 170, 1 with 140, and 1 with 110.
The player whose score is 650 gets 8 points. Which means (8*100)/8 = 100%
The 4 players tied to 620 get (7+6+5+4)/4 = 5.5 points. Which means (5.5*100)/8 = 68.75%
The next two players tied to 170 get (3+2)/2 = 2.5 points. Which means (2.5*100)/8 = 31.25%
The player whose score is 140 gets 1 point. Which means (1*100)/8 = 12.5%
Finally, the player whose score is 110 gets 0 point. Which corresponds to (0*100)/100 = 0%

Tournement percentage computation:
All tournaments are composed of 4 deals. The percentage average for each tournament will be used to establish the ranking.

What happen if a player does not play some tournaments during the current month?
He won't be credited with any penalty. However, he must play at least five tournaments during the current month.

II.3 Ranking, bonus, and groups
There are 20 groups on Funbridge ranging from Elite, the highest on, to four Clubs, the lowest one:
Elite, 1S, 1H, 1D, 1C, 2NT, 2S, 2H, 2D, 2C, 3NT, 3S, 3H, 3D,3C, 4NT, 4S, 4H, 4D, 4C.
S=Spade
H=Heart
D=Diamond
C=Club
NT=No trumps

Players repartition in those 20 groups is made according to a percentage value; with the exception of the Elite group, for which the number of players is fixed and set to 50.
1S 1H 1D 1C 2NT 2S 2H 2D 2C 3NT 3S 3H 3D 3C 4NT 4S 4H 4D 4C
1.6 2.0 2.4 2.8 3.2 3.6 4.0 4.4 4.8 5.2 5.6 6.0 6.4 7.0 7.4 7.8 8.2 8.6 9.0

To those 20 groups, 2 other groups are added:
-New: this group is composed of all new players on Funbridge.
-Non Premium: this group is composed of all players who are non-premium.

The ranking is established at each period end.
A period lasts 15 days, running from the 1st to the 15th day of the month, and from the 16th to the end of the month.
To be ranked, a player must have played at least 10 tournaments during the current period.
Any Premium player who did not play his 20 tournaments during the current period goes down in the lower group.
Non-Premium players always remain in a non premium group.

A new player on Funbridge will be included to the group of new players. At the end of the period, he will then move on to the appropriate group based on his ranking but if and only if he has played at least 5 tournaments during this same period.

At the end of each period:
20% of players in the group above you will move up to a higher group.
20% of players in the group you are you will move down to a lowest group.

Caution, since the 1st of July 2008, a player who is Premium during the whole period and who did not connect to Funbridge at least once, will not move down to a lower group. Players who are in this particular case to not belong to the 20% of players who move down in a lower serie.

Of course, a player cannot move down from group 19 (4C) or move up from Elite group.

A non-Premium player, who is thus playing in the non-premium group, and who decide to subscribe to a Premium membership will move (up or down) to the group which corresponds to his results just as if he was playing in the New Player group.

Bonus
The bonus system rewards players who have played the highest number of competition tournaments.
For each 10 tounrmants played, we do not take into account the two tournaments getting the worst whose percentage.
(NB: the 4 worst among your 20 tournaments and not the 2 worst among the first 10 tournaments and the 2 worst among the following 10 tournaments)

II.4 Awards
Following each period, prizes are awarded as follow:
1 account is selected at random among the ones including a picture: he wins 10 days of Premium membership.
The best player in each group: wins 10 days of Premium membership.
The closest player to 55% withoutexceeding it (effective for each group): wins 5 days of Premium membership.

Conditions to be eligible to receive the award for the best player and the closest player to 55% without exceeding it at the end of the period: the player must have completed at least five tournaments. If the winner is an Ambassador (thus lifetime membership), the award will not be transferable.

II.5 Explained deals
Explained deals are deals specially compiled to show difficulties of the betting and the card play. The betting round and the card play are cut down and commented by Jérôme Rombaut (Europe Champion and France Team Member 2002-2005)
Explained deals are separate from the Funbridge Premium membership and can be bought by batch of 5 minimum. A list of the whole explained deals avaiblable is available by clicking on the button “Explained deals” in the software.

II.6 You have a firewall software

The process is the same on different softwares like Norton Internet Security, Kaspersky or Bit Defender.
We aim to allow Funbridge in the control pannel of your firewall, you should search how with the online documentation and online support of the firewall software.
To put your firewall in average or maximum filtering will probably block Funbridge even if you have set as allow.
If you can't resolve this problem, contact us now.
If you speak French or at least if you can read this language, you can find some screenshots and further details about the way of processing here.

II.7 The trick stays in the middle of the table

You have just to click on the trick or to press Enter on your keyboard.
Some other options are available, like sounds configuration.

II.8 Log in to member area or forum

In Internet Explorer, click on Tools (in the grey toolbar on the top), then click on Internet Options.
Click on the tab named Security of the new window, and click on the "Default Level" button.
Submit this configuration by clicking on "Ok" on each window which will close automatically.
This security option is enough to protect your computer and allow you to identify on web sites.

II.9 Simultaneous tournaments

What the simultaneous tournaments offer :

The simultaneous tournaments allow you to play in real time against other players and to immediately see the result.
Simultaneous tournaments have three parameters :
- The number of deals in the tournament
- The duration of the tournament
- The start time of the tournament.
To enter a tournament requires that you have a number of credits. If you do not have enough credits you may not enter the tournament.

To enter a tournament you must be registered before it begins.

Computation of points, ranking and handicap.

1) At all simultaneous tournament beginning, the tournament level will be defined:
The level will be established according to the average level of the players.

2) When the tournament ends, the level of each player will be updated according to his result in the tournament and the tournament level.
a) The computation of the player level will be done with this formula:
Player’s value = raw % gained in the tournament + (tournament level – 50)
b) This value will be kept in memory for each deal in the tournament.
c) Only the last 100 values will be computed.
d) The player’s level will be the average of the values kept in memory up to 100.

3) A player’s bonus (or handicap) will be computed starting with his level:
Bonus = (65 – player’s level) within 0 and 30 as minimum and maximum value.
Important, a player must have at least 20 values kept in memory (20 played deals) to be eligible to a bonus. (If not, there will be no bonus)

4) New general ranking computation of points:
Scored points = (1-(rank/number of players)) X 8
If the scored point are higher than 6, we will add (4/root of rank), witch will reward the first places.
Points = points X number or deals.

Note that to score points you must have played at least one deal.

The points that you achieve are accumulated over each period until the overall classification for the simultaneous tournaments can be calculated.
If a period passes in which you do not enter a tournament, the number of points that you have previously gained will be halved.
If you register for a simultaneous tournament but do not play, we will calculate your percentage as 0% for all the deals of that tournament.
If at the start of a tournament there is no more than one player entered, the tournament will be annulled.
A tournament will end either when it reaches its scheduled closing time or when all the players have completed play.

The simultaneous tournament screen :

4 selection butttons are displayed at the top of the screen :
